When it comes to finding a law firm to help you through difficult times, bigger is not always better.
We are a small law firm that was founded in 1990 with a single guiding principal: to help everyday people solve real-life problems.
Gene Trotter - A 1983 graduate of the University of South Carolina Law School and the founding member of the firm, Gene has been actively engaged in civil trial work for more than 23 years.
He has represented thousands of clients in all types of cases, and has practiced extensively in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, representing individual consumers in personal bankruptcies as well as businesses in Chapt. 11 reorganizations. He is a member of Bankruptcy Law Section and the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association.
Dave Maxfield - Since receiving his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1994, Dave has devoted the majority of his practice to representing individual consumers in disputes with insurance companies, banks, automobile dealers and credit reporting agencies.
In 2003, Dave obtained one of the highest punitive damage verdicts in the U.S. against a creditor in an identity theft case. He has written several published articles and is an author of the consumer defenses chapter of the South Carolina Foreclosure Law Manual. Dave speaks regularly to groups of lawyers, the public, and on radio about issues affecting the rights of the consumer. He is a past Chairman of the Consumer Law Section of the South Carolina Bar and a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates.
Understanding. People need lawyers most when their circumstances are the worst - divorces, injuries, financial problems, etc. Unfortunately, many people find lawyers to be unapproachable, expensive, or just too busy to listen. We are the opposite. We take the time to sit down with you in a relaxed and friendly environment, to fully understand your situation, and to explain your options. We genuinely care about our each of our clients and achieving the best possible outcomes in their cases.
Relationships. We take pride in the fact that the majority of our new cases come from clients that we have helped in the past, or people that our clients refer. We do not advertise in the newspapers or on television. Instead, we have built our reputation simply by taking care of our clients and working hard for them. Besides being the best form of advertising, we consider the relationships with our clients to be our greatest asset.
